BofA Appoints Mark Rosen Head of Latin American Investment Banking, ex-Brazil

By julie steinberg

Mark Rosen was prmoted to head of Latin America investment banking, excluding Brazil, at BofA Merrill Lynch, the company said in a statement today. He had been the head of its financial institutions group's investment banking operation in the region.

Rosen, 48, will maintain both positions and will be succeeding Sonia Dula, who was promoted in September 2010 to head of the bank's Latin American wealth management business. He will be responsible for the entire investment banking franchise in Latin America excluding Brazil and will continue to advise bank clients in his FIG capacity.

"I'm excited to be taking on this new role at a time when we expect to see an increase in IPO, M&A and debt issuance activity across the region this year. I'm looking forward to BofA Merrill capturing a good share of that business," Rosen said.

Rosen will be based in New York and report to Andrea Orcel, executive chairman of global banking and markets, and Michael Rubinoff and Purna Saggurti, heads of global investment banking.

Before joining BofA Merrill in July of last year, he worked for 12 years at Credit Suisse as head of Latin American and Caribbean financial institutions investment banking. Prior to that, he was head of Latin American M&A at Barclays. During his career he advised on the merger of BBVA and Bancomer to create the largest bank in Mexico and the IPO of Banco Santander Brasil.
